Bank Holiday Sunday turned out to be one of those days where Red Cuthbert Morris managed to be everywhere at once. We started the morning at St Cuthbert’s Festival, where the sun made a rare appearance and the audience was awake enough to clap in time. Dancing on home turf always feels special, and it was a great way to kick off the day.
From there we headed to Great Denham Fete. The field was full of stalls, children, dogs and the occasional confused passer‑by who had not expected to encounter Morris dancers. We did our best to bring some colour and noise to the proceedings, and the fete rewarded us with smiles, applause and the kind of enthusiastic pointing that suggests people were not entirely sure what they were watching.
The afternoon became a tour of beer gardens across the region. First stop was the Horse and Groom in Clapham, next was the Fox in Carlton, and finally we reached the Three Cranes in Turvey, a perfect place to finish the day with a friendly audience and a well earned drink.
