Music

On the last Tuesday of each month some of our musicians can normally be found in the Wellington Arms, Wellington Street, Bedford MK40 2JX from 7.30pm onwards, and anyone who wants to is welcome to come and join in.

The next events will be:

  • Tuesday 30 June – this had been cancelled before, but is now back on!
  • Tuesday 28 July
  • Tuesday 25 August
  • Tuesday 29 September
  • Tuesday 27 October
  • Tuesday 24 November

We mostly play English music, and try to do so at a steady pace. Sometimes our enthusiasm gets away from us and we go a bit quicker. We also enjoy throwing some Northumbrian and continental tunes into the mix.

All abilities are welcome. Just turn up, or if you have any questions get in touch via the contact form.

We have a tunebook that contains some core repertoire, linked to below, but there is no prescription that we must play tunes that are in it.

A few of the tunes we might play in a typical night are:

  • Bear Dance
  • Black Tom
  • Captain Lanoe’s Quick March
  • Dr Mackay’s Farewell to Creagorry
  • Four Up
  • Jenny Lind
  • La Mourisque
  • Maggie in the Woods
  • Mominette
  • Over the Hills and Far Away
  • Princess Royal
  • Rakes of Mallow
  • Rogue’s March
  • Redesdale Hornpipe
  • Salmon Tails Up The Water
  • Theme Vannetaise

There are two PDF versions of the tune book below – the first one one is 8MB and has a title page, contents list at the start and index at the back that link to the tunes, and tune titles that link to a webpage which will let you listen to the music. The second is 1.4MB and is “basic” with no contents page, links etc.
