Red Cuthbert Morris danced our way through Bedford Town Centre on Saturday February 12th. Spreading the love for Valentines young and old. Maybe you saw us? Did you feel the love?
We are gradually building up our repertoire following the pandemic pause. We are also building up our numbers. This tour saw three dancers and two musicians who have joined since lockdown. We had lots of interest from people who saw us around town. I wonder if they will join? I wonder if you would like to learn the art of morris dancing. No experience is needed… get in touch and join us at our Thursday practice at 8pm in St Cuthbert’s Hall.
Our first spot was in Church Square – or Pigeon Square if you prefer. It was a chilly day as we started with Much Wenlock stick dance and our hankies fluttered in the dance named after Pershore. But at our next spot by “The Faces” they very nearly blew away as the wind whistled down from Mill Street. We lunched in The Rose before dancing outside the Higgins, then under Castle Mound before going to Riverside Square and finishing at Harpur Square. We then retired to The Bear.
The pandemic-inspired dance “Waiting for the Vaccine” is now a stable part of our set and it will soon be joined by our very own “Hands, Face, Space”. We did try that once but it is fair to say it needs more practice!
